Satun is a province in Southern Thailand on the Southern Andaman Coast. And who wouldn’t want to explore its pristine nature and beautiful scenery? There are a few ways to get there, there is no way you can get there by plane directly, however, you can take a flight to Hat Yai airport, which from there you can take taxi, van, or bus to Satun. Another option is the bus, you can take the bus to Satun from either Bangkok or Hat Yai but be prepared for a very long trip as it takes hours to get there. The most recommended option is by boat as it is the most comfortable, the cheapest, and doesn’t take up much of your time. There are many boat routes to Satun including Langkawi to Satun, Hat Yai to Satun, Ao Nang to Satun, Koh Lipe to Satun, Krabi to Satun, Phuket to Satun, and much more.

Satun Information

Satun is a beautiful province on the Southern Andaman Coast of Southern Thailand. It has a population of about 312,673 and it is the gateway to many of Southern Thailand’s islands in the Andaman. It has an array of beautiful mountainous forests and amazing nature. Satun has an area of 2,479 km2. It is well known for having many neighboring islands like Ko Adang and Koh Tarutao. It is definitely a must visit for all tourists!

Satun The Festivals

The Festivals
Satun is a home to many cheerful festivals that people come to experience from all around the world. One of these festivals is the International Kite Festival which is held in February in Mueang District, it is a kite contest having participants from more than 10 countries, it offers a cultural show, performances and of course colorful and beautiful kites fluttering in the sky. Another festival is the Floating Boat Festival held in Koh Lipe, it takes place on the 13th and 15th day of the waxing moon in May and November. Sea gypsies gather around for this 3-day celebration believing that the festival pushes away bad luck.

Satun Tarutao’s National Park

Tarutao’s National Park
This is the second marine national park in Thailand. It has been a Reserve by UNESCO and an ASEAN Heritage Park in the year 1982. It consists of 5 islands of 2 groups; Tarutao group to the east and Adang-Rawi group to the west. The park is about 1,490 square kilometers. Some of the species you can see in the park are mouse, deer, boar, langur, hornbill, raptors and king cobra among others. The National Park entrance fee is 200 Baht for foreigners and 100 Baht for children.

Satun Satun Central Mosque

Satun Central Mosque
Also known as Mambang Mosque is located in the center of Satun at Satun Thani Road. The mosque has more of a modern style of Islamic architecture and it is a white building decorated with glass, marble, and glazed tiles. The Mambang Mosque is divided into 2 parts, the outside corridor that leads to a dome tower where you can find some breathtaking sights of the Satun town. And inside there is a library located in the basement and a beautiful prayer hall.

Satun Koh Tarutao

Koh Tarutao
Koh Tarutao is one of Thailand’s widest islands as it is about 152 km2, most of its space is covered in jungle. This island has many rough roads and steep trails that makes it an amazing place for mountain bike ride and hikers. Note that the island closes from mid-May to mid-October. Also, this island is well-known for being the setting for Survivor: Thailand. It is also a very good place for taking a kayak and paddling through the beautiful waters.
