Loi Krathong Festival 2023

Loy Krathong (or "Floating Decoration") Day is one of the most popular Thai festivals of the year. It's a peaceful and significant festival of lights. There are people everywhere nearby rivers and lakes will release pre-prepared candlelit floating vessels that they have filled with symbolic emblems. It is such peaceful and spectacular scene, and the atmosphere is one of friendliness and wonderful Thai hospitality.

The event has been observed annually since the mid-19th century, and marks the evening of the full moon of the 12th month in the traditional Thai lunar calendar.

As the evening progresses, the night sky is increasingly filled with "Komloys", Chinese-style lanterns made airborne by the burning of a flame and set off amidst wishes and prayers for blessings and good fortune. In recent years, some of the more popular Krathong-releasing venues have included a local beauty contest and some firework displays.
