Donsak is a district located east of Surat Thani Province. It is well-known as the setting off point for the islands of Koh Phangan, Koh Samui, and Koh Tao. You will find different ferry operators waiting for you on the pier. The easiest way to go to Donsak district is through Surat Thani province as it has its own airport, so you can fly to Surat Thani from Bangkok or Phuket then take a taxi, bus, or a minivan to Donsak. Taking the bus from Bangkok is also an option and the trip takes around 9 hours. Hiring a taxi from Phuket or Krabi to Surat Thani is easy, the driver will pick you up from Phuket/Krabi airport or your hotel and take you straight to the province. If you’re going to Donsak from Koh Tao, Koh Phangan, or Koh Samui, the ferry is the easiest and most fun option as it will take you straight to Donsak Pier.
It is found South of Thailand in Surat Thani region. This area is surrounded by the Gulf of Thailand and it has a breathtaking view since Surat Thani is a mountainous province. Donsak is the main ferry port in the area and you can find Donsak’s main passengers gate near the town of Mu Ban Don Sak Thani. There’s also a place where you can shop for snacks, grab a meal, withdraw some cash from the several ATM machines in the pier.
The Hug Village
This village has a unique atmosphere as people call it Thailand’s Holland due to the many lovely animals and the stunning view of the ocean. This place is great for taking unforgettable photos, kids can also feed the animals and play with them or maybe ride a horse! And because it is located next to the sea, the breeze is always fresh. Tourists can enjoy many activities. The wind turbine is a landmark there and the village is also not expensive and it’s a great place to enjoy the day with the family.
Wat Khao Suwan Pradit
A lot of tourists sail from/to Donsak without walking or driving around the district. most of the people who went to Donsak don’t know about Khao Suwan Pradit temple. It is set up high on a cliff which gives you an amazing panoramic view of the coast and the nearby islands. You can also catch the view of the fishing village from up there. It was founded by one of Thailand’s most revered Buddhist monks “Luang Phu Choi” and the monastery contains Buddha relics brought from Phra Kiat temple in Chiang Mai.
The Night Market
Surat Thani puts on a show every night on Th Ton Pho. The market is small yet it offers lots of different food like various chicken dishes, veggies, fish, fruits, fresh fruit juices, meats on sticks, noodles dishes and sweets and with reasonable prices! Besides the great and different kinds of food, it’s a good place for shopping and buying souvenirs to your loved ones. You will find different kinds of shoes, clothes, cosmetics, and bags. It’s a fantastic place for every age and it has a great vibe.
City Pillar Shrine
This shrine is located in the city of Surat Thani in a beautiful park with lots of landscape. The shrine represents tutelary deity of each Thailand’s province. Each shrine has an amazing political, social, and religious importance. Most of Thailand’s provinces have their own official shrine. It’s a holy place and was in the ceremony of Brahman tradition. The shrine had to be raised first before they built the city as they believed the shrine will bring prosperity to the city.
