Phi Phi is a group of six islands: Phi Phi Leh, Brida Nok, Phi Phi Don, Brida Noi, Koh Phai, and Koh Yung. In 1983 the islands were declared a national park. Phi Phi Don island is the only island in the group that has developed throughout the years, all the other islands are uninhabited.

Phi Phi Don covers a total area of eight km in length while Phi Phi Leh covers three km. Right next to the main town in Phi Phi Don there are two beaches: Loh Dalam and Ton Sai. Leh is entirely limestone and cliffs rising from the sea. Leh Island has several beautiful bays: Loh Samah, Piley, and Maya.

Maya Bay is the number one tourist attraction on Phi Phi Islands since it was where the movie “The Beach” starring Leonardo Dicaprio was filmed on. The beach in Maya Bay is closed to tourists due to over tourism in order to allow the mangrove forest, the coral reefs, and the general ecosystem of the island to recover.

There is no airport on Koh Phi Phi nor Koh Tao. And both islands have no roads either, so getting to these beautiful islands can only be through the sea.

From Mae Haad Pier to Tonsai Pier

There is no direct ferry trip from Koh Tao to Phi Phi. On your trip to Phi Phi from Tao island, you’ll have to pass by Surat Thani and Krabi Town.

It’s a joint-ticket trip as it includes different ways of transportation in one ticket! this amazing journey will start by a 8 小时 30 分钟 ferry trip from Mae Haad Pier in Tao to Tapee Pier in Surat Thani then a bus will be waiting for you to take you to Krabi Town in 8 小时 30 分钟. From Krabi Town, you’ll get on another ferry straight to Phi Phi islands in 8 小时 30 分钟. This Ferry+Bus ticket costs 2,300 THB for the whole trip.

The waiting time at the pier is not included and the ticket doesn’t include a 200 THB entry fee to the beautiful Koh Phi Phi.

Best time to visit

The climate is typically tropical and warm on the islands, similar to the weather in Phuket. The high season starts from November till May when the sea settles and there is no to few rainfalls. Summer months can also be a great time to visit the islands although windy days and rain are expected during these months.
