Ao Nang is a small sub district and a resort town in Thailand. It is located at the central point of Krabi province. The town is very small, half an hour is enough for you to stroll from one end to the other.

There are plenty of scuba diving centers in the town, they offer diving courses from basic up to instructor level. The diving sites in Ao Nang are easy to access and they are less crowded than the diving sites around Koh Phi Phi islands.

And just like the rest of Krabi’s islands and its nearby destinations, rock climbing is one of the most popular activities to do in Krabi province. Many backpackers travel to Ao Nang for the excellent climbing that Krabi’s limestone formations offer.

You can also find the nightlife in Ao Nang in two areas “The Soi” and “Center Point” which are filled with plenty of Pubs, restaurants, and shops.

Getting around the town is easy, there are a lot of tuk-tuks and motorbikes. The tuk-tuk driver can take you on a trip around the town, or you can rent a motorbike to explore the town and the sites around it. Songthaews “the local buses” also run across Ao Nang and some run all the way to Krabi town.

Best time to visit

The period from November to April marks the high season in Ao Nang. The optimal weather conditions allow visitors to fully appreciate the town's beauty. In contrast, from May to October, the rainy season, lodging prices decrease, and there is a noticeable reduction in tourist crowds. During these months, the weather tends to be rainy, and the sea can become rough.
