Koh Yao Yai is a beautiful island that sits halfway between Krabi and Phuket and in the midst of Phang Nga Bay. Transportation (speedboat) to Koh Yao Yai could seem difficult but actually, it is pretty easy. It is much easier to get to Koh Yao Yai from Phuket, as Phuket has its own international airport that has daily flights coming in from various different places around the world. You can take a taxi from the airport or the hotel you are staying to Bang Rong Pier and then take a speedboat ride to Manoh Pier in Koh Yao Noi, once you reach the pier take a tuk-tuk or taxi to your desired location in Koh Yao Noi.

Another common place is Krabi, which also has the same attributes of transportation as Phuket including a fully functioning international airport and all kinds of transportation options (Ferry and speedboat). If you are in Phang Nga you can also take a short speedboat ride to the island.

Koh Yao Yai Information

Koh Yao Yai, which translates to Big Long Island is an amazing island located between two main islands that are Krabi and Phuket. Its name contradicts Koh Yao Noi which translates to Small Long Island. However, that is not the only difference between the two islands as Koh Yao Yai is less developed and two times bigger than its sister Koh Yao Noi. It is known for its lush landscape and beautiful coconut groves as well as having opportunities for snorkelers and swimmers to delve into the emerald waters.

The island is more undeveloped than a lot of islands in Thailand but it still contains most modern facilities any traveler will need. The island has good infrastructure, the main road is mostly smoothed out and easy for navigation with decent internet and phone services throughout the island. The villagers on the island built their own wooden homes that are surrounded by tropical potted plants all over. The island also has a hospital, ATMs and Wi-Fi and well-established resorts. It still remains unspoiled and one of the most tranquil islands of the Andaman.

It is known very well that this is one of the most undeveloped islands in Thailand when it comes to tourism which makes its nature all the more exciting. Filled with beautiful landscapes and rubber plantations as well as refreshing coconut groves. The beaches on the island are to die for and perfect for you swimmers out there seeking some water fun and for people who just want to kick it back and chill while getting the perfect suntan. It is a suitable place to slow down time for a while.
