Ao Suan Yai, Koh Mak
Ao Suan Yai is the long bay on the north-west side of Koh Mak, and the one with the view: it faces directly across the channel to the mountainous bulk of Koh Chang, which fills the horizon and takes the light at the end of the day.
The beach is a shallow arc of pale sand with a scatter of casuarina and coconut, and the water is calm and very shallow a long way out. There are only a handful of resorts along it, and no road development to speak of - Koh Mak is largely flat, privately owned in long-standing family holdings, and given over to rubber and coconut, which is why it has stayed quiet.
Ferries and speedboats reach Koh Mak from Laem Ngop on the Trat coast, and from Koh Chang and Koh Kood.
