Several companies run services to the island, including Haadrin Queen, Lomlahkkhirin High Speed Ferries and Lomprayah High Speed Ferries Co., Ltd. Each operator sets its own timetable, vessel type, luggage rules and pier. Compare several operators against the alternatives on your chosen date, since departure times and prices vary by company and by season.

Main Departure and Arrival Points on Koh Phangan

Ferry services to Koh Phangan typically operate from established ports on nearby islands and the Thai mainland. The main arrival point on Koh Phangan is Thong Sala Pier, the island's primary ferry terminal, located on the western coast. This is where most ferries dock, and it serves as the central transport hub for onward travel around the island.

From Thong Sala Pier, you can arrange connections to other parts of Koh Phangan or travel onwards to neighbouring islands and the mainland. The pier is well-served by local transport options, including minivans, taxis, and private transfers.

Haad Rin, on the island's southern tip, also handles boat arrivals from Koh Samui and is the closest landing point to the Full Moon Party beach. Check which pier your ticket uses, as the two are on opposite sides of the island and roughly a 30-minute drive apart.

Popular Routes to Koh Phangan

Travellers commonly book ferries from Koh Samui to Koh Phangan for a quick island hop, taking advantage of the close 15km distance. Those visiting multiple islands often combine Koh Phangan with trips to Koh Tao, just 35km away, or explore the broader region by ferry.

Mainland connections are also available, allowing you to travel directly from Thai ports if you prefer not to island-hop. These routes are ideal if you're building a broader Thailand itinerary. Many visitors also explore nearby destinations like Koh Samui or Koh Tao as part of their island-hopping adventure.

These are six of the destinations linked to the island; the search box lists the rest, along with current departure times and fares from ฿199.

Practical Travel Information

Book ahead around the Full Moon Party, Thai public holidays and the December–February high season, when the busiest crossings sell out days in advance. Outside those peaks you'll usually find same-week availability.

Arrive at the pier at least 30 minutes before departure to check in and collect your boarding pass. Sea conditions in the Gulf can change quickly, and operators may delay or cancel sailings in rough weather, so avoid booking a same-day onward flight from the mainland.

Each operator's own conditions cover luggage allowance, changes and refunds. Read the terms shown at checkout for your specific service before confirming.

What to Do on Koh Phangan

Nightlife and Entertainment

Haad Rin Beach is famous worldwide for its Full Moon Party, a legendary event held monthly that draws thousands of visitors. The beach transforms into an open-air festival with music, dancing, and entertainment that runs late into the night. If the Full Moon Party appeals to you, plan your Koh Phangan ferry booking around the lunar calendar.

Beyond the famous party, Koh Phangan has a vibrant bar and restaurant scene spread across the island, with venues suited to different tastes and energy levels. Whether you're looking for beachfront clubs, laid-back beach bars, or intimate cafés, you'll find plenty of options to suit your evening.

Relaxation and Wellness

For those seeking tranquillity, Koh Phangan is home to numerous spas, yoga centres, and wellness retreats. Many visitors choose the quieter beaches and hidden coves away from the main party areas, where they can enjoy massages, meditation classes, and holistic treatments in peaceful tropical settings. The island's natural beauty and laid-back atmosphere make it an ideal destination for relaxation.

Several retreat centres across the island specialise in wellness programmes, from yoga retreats to spa packages, and many run multi-day courses that are worth booking before you arrive.

Beaches and the Interior

Much of the island's centre is protected national park, with forest trails, viewpoints and waterfalls reachable on a day trip from the coast. The north and east coasts hold the quietest bays, some of them easier to reach by longtail boat than by road.

Phangan Beaches

Starting with the infamous Haad Rin Nok, which is the most popular beach complete with all the tourist amenities, this beach turns into a massive sandy dance floor on full moon party night and takes a while after to get cleaned up. Why not try Haad Rin Nai in the south, otherwise known as "Sunset Beach". To the southwest you'll find Ao Ban Tai and Ao Ban Khai, which are two long beaches with stunning sunset views. To the West there's Had Yao and Mae Had, which are beautiful, highly rated beaches with soft sand and great snorkelling conditions. Finally, to the East, there's the picturesque Had Yao and Thong Nai Pan, which are still so special and tranquil.

Full Moon Party Time

Crazy with a capital C! This is not your average party, it is completely wild. Haad Rin Beach becomes a sandy dance floor as a truly global gathering of backpackers and travelling party people dance and socialise the night away in the wildest possible way! PhuketFerry.com is sure that two-thirds wake up the next day saying stuff like "what happened" and "where are we"! Yes, alcohol abounds (in sand buckets actually), and normal living is suspended. Our advice is BE CAREFUL (well we tried!). Actually, it does make sense to read up a bit about what to expect, because there are some cautionary notes to be found, but whatever you do, have a good time at the party in paradise!

Getting Around Koh Phangan

It's relatively easy to get around Koh Phangan. Car or motorcycle taxis are available, or you could take a "songthaew", which is a small pickup truck with seats and a roof at the back that seats around 10 people. If you're feeling extra adventurous then how about renting a motorcycle so you have much more traveling freedom. If you're fairly inexperienced be extra careful. Phangan roads are not all smooth so beware the potholes, always wear your helmet and get some insurance coverage. Best cars for hire are definitely the four-wheel drive automatic cars that'll enable you to move effortlessly up and down the hilly landscape.

Phangan's Natural Beauty

Koh Phangan is blessed with wonderful waterfalls and viewpoints if you are adventurous enough to venture inland. Check out the Domesila Viewpoint and then hike around 15 minutes to swim in the fresh waters of Phaeng Waterfall in the beautiful Phaeng National Park near Thong Sala Beach. There's also a viewpoint of the north of the island on a rocky viewpoint that's 30-45 minutes away-and-up from Haad Khuat (Bottle Beach). Many people enjoy a hike in Phangan along trail that leads between Haad Rin and Haad Tien, and if it's relaxing upon the ocean you'd prefer, then try a special little boat trip whilst enjoying the natural beauty of Ko Maa and other areas.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What are the tourist seasons ?

Phuket

Phuket really just has two seasons, which are known as "high season" and "low season" (or "green season"). During the low season months (May–September), boat numbers are reduced. During the high season (October–April), boats to the surrounding islands are increased so you will have some more options.

Koh Samui

There are three distinct weather seasons on the tropical island of Koh Samui: the dry season (December until February), the hot season (March until August) and the rainy season (September until November).

How do I unlock my account now?

Wait, and try again. Every lock lifts on its own — a minute the first time, and never more than an hour however many attempts have failed. There is nothing to click and nobody to contact.

If you have forgotten your password, do not keep guessing: each wrong attempt makes the next wait longer. Use Forgot password instead. Resetting your password gets you straight back in.

What is the difference between a locked and a blocked account?

Locked is automatic and temporary. It happens after repeated failed sign-in attempts and it lifts by itself — within a minute in most cases.

Blocked is a decision made by our team, and it does not lift on its own. If your account is blocked you will need to contact us; waiting will not change it, and neither will resetting your password.

If you are not sure which applies to you, get in touch and we will tell you.

How long am I locked out for?

The first lock is one minute. If sign-in keeps failing after that, each further lock lasts longer:

  • 1st lock — 1 minute
  • 2nd lock — 5 minutes
  • 3rd lock — 15 minutes
  • 4th lock and after — 1 hour

An hour is the longest you will ever be locked out. You get five attempts before the first lock, and as soon as you sign in successfully everything resets — the next time you mistype, you start again at one minute.

My account locked but I never tried to sign in

Then someone else was trying to sign in as you, and the lock did its job — it stopped them.

Your account is safe: a lock means the attempts failed. Nobody got in. You do not have to do anything, and the lock will lift on its own.

We would still recommend two things:

  • Change your password, especially if you use the same one on another website.
  • Add an authenticator app in your account security settings, so a password alone is never enough to sign in as you.

If you get these repeatedly, contact us and we will look into it.

Why is my account locked?

We lock an account for a short time after several failed sign-in attempts in a row. It is an automatic safety measure: it stops someone else guessing your password, and it happens whether or not the person typing was you.

You do not need to contact us. The lock lifts on its own — see How long am I locked out for?
