Koh Lanta is well-known among people seeking a holiday away from the crowd, and the parties. It’s more about watching the sunset and walking on the beach than dancing and drinking. It is also popular with divers and families with young children.
Although it’s a little less popular than Koh Phi Phi, one of the best areas to stay in Koh Lanta is Long Beach “Pra-Ae”, with its warm clear water that is great for swimming and the golden sand with pine trees that just give you an amazing view to look at and chill.
Koh Lanta consists of many islands, the largest two are Koh Lanta Yai, which means “Big Lanta Island” and Koh Lanta Noi “Small Lanta Island”.
You can find no airport on the island but since Koh Lanta is in Krabi province the nearest airport to the island is Krabi airport.
To get to Koh Lanta, it is accessible by sea or road so you can choose which option suits you best.
The ferry is the most popular option from November to April. During the off period, the only way to get to Koh Lanta from Krabi is to drive, take a minivan, bus, or a taxi since the ferries don’t operate during this period.
You can find plenty of waiting areas, small snack vendors, and since the pier sits near a mangrove forest, you can stroll around while waiting for your ferry.
